Cyber-physical systems typically involve multiple computational platforms interacting over communication networks that are either open or closed and may be domain specific. Specific issues that arise in CPS:

media access control techniques and their effects on system dynamics;
middleware, software and APIs that provide coordination over networks;
control over timing of network transactions;
fault tolerances.
