On the differential equations of thin wire structures - Existence, Uniqueness and Applications

K.K. Mei

Abstract

It is shown that the currents on thin wire structures including antennas and open transmission lines are solutions of ordinary differential equations as well as integral equations. The existence and uniqueness of the differential operators are proved. The differential operators naturally lead to equivalent circuits, which are essential to the study of IC interconnects. It also uncovers the incompleteness of non-uniform transmission line equations, which have been in use in numerous text books of electromagnetic theory.
