Doing an EDA Startup

Abstract

The EDA industry is relatively mature but Moore's Law provides opportunities for innovation and wealth creation on a sustained basis. A small team of talented developers can create next generation design technologies while large teams inside established companies have a poor track record for innovation. As in most other industries, technology superiority alone does not deliver success. In this talk, I will draw from experiences in the EDA industry and the venture capital business to reinforce the ingredients of successful startups. The talk will cover various aspects of a startup - including business plans, recruiting teams, raising capital, exit strategies, etc.. The typical venture investor's approach to evaluating a startup can be used not only to raise money but also to better prepare for a successful venture.
