To install using the recommended installer

- After downloading, double-click
HyViInst.exe
- If you do not have a Java virtual machine installed, be sure to download the package above which includes one.

- Requires Mac OS X 10.2 or later running Java 1.4, for details, see HyVisual Notes for Mac OS X
- The compressed installer should be recognized by Stuffit Expander and should automatically be expanded after downloading. If it is not expanded, you can expand it manually using StuffIt Expander 6.0 or later.
- If you have any problems launching the installer once it has been expanded, make sure that the compressed installer was expanded using Stuffit Expander. If you continue to have problems, please contact ptolemy at ptolemy.eecs.berkeley.edu.

- After downloading open a shell and,
cd
to the directory where you downloaded the installer. - At the prompt type:
sh ./HyViInst.bin
- You need to install a Java 1.4 (or later) virtual machine. You can download one from Sun's Java web site or contact your OS manufacturer.

- For Java 2, after downloading, type
java -jar HyViInst.jar
- For Java 1.1, after downloading, type
jre -cp HyViInst.jar install
- If that does not work, try
java -classpath
[path to]classes.zip:HyViInst.jar install
- If that does not work either, on sh-like shells, try
cd
[to directory where HyViInst.jar is located]
CLASSPATH=
HyViInst.jar
export CLASSPATH
java install
- Or for csh-like shells, try
cd
[to directory where HyViInst.jar is located]
setenv CLASSPATH
HyViInst.jar
java install
- Be sure you have Java 1.1.8 or later installed. You can download Java from Sun's site
- In a console window, change to the directory where you downloaded
HyViInst.jar
to before running the installer - Your operating system may invoke Java in a different way. To start the installer, add
HyViInst.jar
to yourCLASSPATH
, then start the main class of the installer namedinstall
