Just do it!
Java Workshop 2.0 and Java Studio 1.0
I obtained an academic license for Java workshop and Java studio. These licenses expires in March or April 1999. To obtain them you can either register at the SunShop and download the evaluation files, or just get the local copies below.

Please read the academic license agreement. Also see Sun's Global Free Java Software for Teaching page.

Before you run these programs for the first time, set HOME to somewhere useful. This will give them somewhere to create some folders, that will otherwise be irritatingly placed into your top-level directory. See the release notes for the Java Workshop extension.

You will need to give these programs a license key the first time you run them. Here are our academic license keys:

  • Java workshop: JWS200-SUNSCH-191566051
  • Java studio:JST100-SUNSCH-923256385

It's probably better not to register. Note that the "extension" is mostly a bug fix patch. Install Java Workshop 2.0 first and then install the patch. The patch is needed to run Java Workshop with Swing.

For more info, see the on Java info page.

Sun's Java test tools
I downloaded Sun's testing tools. These are supposed to become available free on academic license sometime in May.
