Abstract
Ptolemy II is well positioned to deal with embedded control systems, which generally consist of distributed collections of interacting time-triggered and event-triggered computational tasks that also interact with a physical environment, which can be usually represented by differential equations. We present an experimental Ptolemy domain for modeling time-triggered computations adhering to the semantics of the Timing Definition Language (TDL), which allows the specification of real-time components that rely on the Logical Execution Time (LET) abstraction introduced in the Giotto project. We show how the TDL domain in Ptolemy can be used for modeling and simulation of embedded control systems involving compositions of time-triggered, discrete event, and continuous time actors. The integration also enables what we call transparent distribution of TDL components whose functionality has been modeled with the existing Ptolemy domains. Thus, TDL components modeled in Ptolemy can be automatically mapped to a FlexRay cluster or any other potentially distributed platform supported by the TDL:VisualDistributor tool.
