Upcoming: Book to be published in April 2020 (now available for preorder): The Coevolution: The Entwined Futures of Humans and Machines, MIT Press. This book argues that we are less in control of the trajectory of technology than we think. It shapes us as much as we shape it, and it may be more defensible to think of technology as the result of a Darwinian coevolution than the result of top-down intelligent design. To understand this question requires a deep dive into how evolution works, how humans are different from computers, and how the way technology develops resembles the emergence of a new life form on our planet.

Video: Talk about the Vienna Manifesto on Digital Humanism, given at the Forum of the Humanist Community in Silicon Valley, Oct. 10, 2019. Also, Podcast on Coevolution of AI and Humans, a conversation between Nicole Sallak Anderson and Edward Lee, April 25, 2019, at the California Institute of Integrative Studies.
