Abstract
Ptolemy II offers a development environment for prototyping, composing, and testing web services that is built on a solid semantic foundation. This environment includes an actor library for creating web services and the ability to "wrap" sensors and actuators, using for example sMAP and Sensor Andrew, external simulators, and other software tools. These wrapped components can be composed and run interactively as web services. The environment also includes actors to create test cases for web services (including services developed with other tools). Demos discussed here include creating a basic web service, integrating data from Sensor Andrew, an interactive EnergyPlus simulation web service, and a web service that invokes the TuLiP controller synthesis toolbox. A detailed walkthrough of web service development is provided in the latest Ptolemy book.
