Abstract
Recent advances in sensor network technology result in the possibility of advanced real-time monitoring of patients while they remain in the home. Many questions regarding the handling of this new source of medical data remain unanswered, particularly as the complete set of data that can be inferred from various sensor readings, such as patient location, remains undefined.

It has been a phenomenon in the last decade that information kept about patients has been made increasingly available to them. The Vanderbilt Center for Better Health's Web-based Patient Portal is designed to facilitate the bidirectional flow of information between patient and health care provider, and with the global internet provides an effective point of entry for information from the in home monitoring system to care givers and to the patient.

All aspects of the system from the sensor nodes to the patient portal enforce privacy and security concerns for the collected data.
