Before you start
Before you start, there are a few things that you
need to do.
- Get a name for your machine
- Think of a name for your machine. See Christopher's Machine
Names page.
- Back up your data
- If you have any, that is. I try and keep all critical
data on my Unix file-system (and my NT file-system is set
up to mirror my Unix file system closely enough to make
this feasible).
- Make sure you have access to an installable NT
- Sounds dumb, but I didn't! See the next couple of
pages for more details.
- Make the Ethernet card driver disk
- This can't be done later. (Not easily, anyway). Follow the link
below to get the Etherjet driver disk. You only need the first disk,
"ejetpc1.exe" -- all the rest appear to be some LAN stuff that we don't
need. Execute ejetpc1.exe to create the installation floppy.
- Make the display driver disk
- This can be done later, but the screen is easier to work
with if you have the full use of it. Follow the link
below to get the display driver disk. Execute
vftp4wnt.exe to create the installation floppy.
If you don't have a ThinkPad 760 for some reason, try looking
