Installing NT from CD-ROM, Part 3

Installation, part 2
The setup program now asks you a tedious set of questions, including the one that needs the serial number of your NT CD. (if you don't have it, you are hosed.) Most of the questions are obvious; for the others I answered:
  • Installation configuration: I chose "Portable computer."
  • Administrator password: set it to something you can remember. Later one you might need to ask Christopher to change it to something he knows.
  • Networking: choose "Do not connect this computer to a network." (It's easier to do it later.)
  • Don't bother changing the display settings: you'll have to install a new display driver anyway.

When you reboot, log on as "Administrator."

Install the video driver
  1. Open the Display control panel, and go to the Settings tab. Click on Display Type, and then on Change. In the dialog that appears, click on Have Disk. Insert the NT Video Features disk and click OK. Select the IBM Thinkpad entry and click OK.
  2. Eject the floppy disk and select Restart. Open the Display control panel again. Select 1024x768 and 65536 colors. Click Test and then OK.
