OK?

Now's a good time to do some confidence checks!
Check TCP/IP and NT networking
Open an MS-DOD window and enter
    ping 128.32.171.111
(That's brahe.) If it times out, it's not my fault!

Select Run from the Start menu and enter \\ntsww1. You'll need to type in your departmental NT user name (eecs\username) and password. ntsww1 should come up. If not, it's not my fault!

Installing Service Pack 3
Now is a good time to install Service Pack 3 of Windows NT. Connect to ntsww1 and copy (control-drag) \\ntsww1\Dist\Patches and SPs\NT_sp3\nt3sp3_i to your disk. Exit from all applications, and close the ntsww1 windows (it's easier to do it now -- trust me). Double-click on the downloaded file to install the Service Pack. I elected not to create an Uninstall directory. When it's done, NT will restart.

(When I did it, NT appeared to hang, so I switched the power off. Luckily, NT rebooted fine.)

Check Unix file sharing (Samba)
Follow Christopher's instructions for mounting Unix file systems.

NT has version 2.0 (!) of Internet Exploder supplied with it. Click the icon (on the desktop) and connect to http://ptolemy/~johnr/local/nt. Fortunately, that's good enough to do everything else directly from the NTpak.
