The NetEye 200 is a Web server and camera rolled into one--in other words, it doesn't need to be connected to a PC. The camera is assigned an IP address, then attached to an Ethernet network or installed via modem to the Internet. Captured images can then be viewed remotely with a standard Web browser, using a URL that points to the camera. It captures motion at up to 6 frames per second with a maximum resolution of 704 by 576 pixels

My motivation to install this upgrade was to use the remote shutter cord, which is supposed to provide interval picture taking but does NOT!! (After 48 minutes on hold to get through to Nikon tech support to find out where the hell the instructions are to upgrade the camera I was told this is the case, plus I've confirmed it on my own). You can't use the remote shutter release without upgrading to firmware v1.1 anyway, but the interval timer is NOT supported. To save all you poor folks from trying to figure out where the convoluted yet essential instructions are that SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED with the download, here it is: http://www.nikontechusa.com/990_1_1_.html Looking for to the interval timer working in firmware upgrade 1.2!

There's a review of it on my site (the URL is www.bythom.com/sb50review.htm ), but I wouldn't necessarily recommend this flash for a Coolpix. That's because it doesn't support Automatic flash mode. If for any reason you can't use TTL (the flash sensor is blocked on the camera by a lens converter, for example), the only way you could fire the flash would be at full manual power.
  • rec.photo.digital

The only downside of the SB50-DX is that is uses non-rechargeable, fairly expensive batteries. Other than that, it will work fine. You need an AS-E900 cord between the CP990 and the flash.

The CP 990 can only send fire and squelch to the flash, so even if you bought a more expensive flash, the camera couldn't use more than the basics.

You might consider the Nikon SB-22S, which is a bit cheaper, and uses AA batteries. If you get the gray-market SB-22S at B&H, it's quite a bit cheaper.

On the other hand, the SB50 can be used as a slave-flash.
