What mics do speakers use?

We have two wireless mic sets for speakers:
  • A Shure
  • A Polycom

The Shure has a sharper tone, and (IMHO) doesn't encode as well as the Polycom. The Polycom, however, seems to need some fine-tuning on the squelch, so if it starts making a lot of noise, get the little plastic screwdriver and try fiddling with it.

In general, the recommended setup is to give one to the speaker, and the other to Richard, since he often has to interject or make impromptu announcements (and knows how to use a wireless mic).

Note: change the batteries in the wireless mic transmitters before each session! They last less than a day each.

To connect the wireless mics to the mixer, use a short XLR-XLR connector for the Shure receiver, and a mono mini-jack to quarter-inch jack cable for the Polycom. Plug them into the appropriate sockets on the top of the mixer.

Note: Once they are connected, do not turn off the transmitters -- use the Mute switch instead, or the receiver will go crazy.
